His skull shattered with a slow wet crunch, and the coin dragged a trail of shards inward through gelatinous tissue.  First it tunneled through the frontal lobe, pieces of bone sliding off its edges to lodge in memory centers and short-circuit neural pathways of rational thought. Then it sliced through the parietal lobe, skewing sight and sound into unrecognizable horrors as its damage multiplied centimeter by centimeter. Not for the first time, Sebastian Shaw found himself faced with the prospect of immanent death.  Just like always, he refused to die. Both sensing and feeling Shaw's rage and terror while powerless to release his telepathic hold on the man, Charles Xavier reached out in an act of desperation or compassion to shut down Shaw's mind in those last few seconds before death. Shaw reached out, too, and latched onto Charles' consciousness in a desperate bid to do what he did best: survive. A transfer occurred. Using the electro-chemical energy of his own thoughts, Shaw forced what was left of himself outward and cloned his cognitive signature over Xavier's own. He intended to overtake the young, inexperienced mind reader, but Shaw found himself confronted with a psyche much stronger than he expected, and instead what was left of his mind merged with Charles' to form an entirely new entity. Onslaught was born. [ -- so basically, this is an xmcu au based on the onslaught arc from the comics. in this version, charles xavier absorbs the darkest parts of sebastian shaw's psyche instead of magneto's. things are all downhill from there. ]
